Want to Fly your Drone like a Jedi? - Hexo+ Reveal Gesture Controls

Drones are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and where you once needed to agonize over the complicated controls of a huge remote, you can now swipe a finger across a screen or set up a flight plan before you even leave the ground.  But, as is often the case in the tech industry, further innovation is just around the corner...

The Hexo+ was formed by from a kickstarter campaign in 2014 and offers a fresh take on aerial photography. The drone works without a remote, simply locks onto your phone and follows you as you cycle, run, ski or drive. This means that uniquely, no pilot is needed, with take-off and landing all automatically taken care off. The Hexo+'s predictive algorithms make it a clever alternative to its competitors, but what's more interesting is the 'magic wand' gesture control the French company is about to introduce.

Okay, so maybe I lied a little in the title. Hexo+'s gesture control is more Harry Potter than Jedi. But either way, it allows you to control your drone just by pointing to where you want to it go. This is an intuitive spin on regular pilot controls, and is especially exciting given the recent trends in POV/Virtual Reality drone racing. It's also a big step forward in making drone control more accessible. Imagine handing your magic wand over to a young child to practice flying; just don't let them point it towards the ground...
