Norwegian Engineers Set Drone Weightlifting World Record

Amazon have been in the news recently after revealing more details about their plans to introduce delivery drones. The retail giant hopes that their drones will become as commonplace as mail vans, carrying five pound parcels straight to your doorstep in half an hour. But why stop at five pounds?...

Engineers at the University of Olso, Norway, have put together a record-breaking drone capable of lifting a payload of over 60kg. The 'Multicopter' was formed by attaching 48 motors and 13 propellers to an aluminium frame, and took 18 months to build.

The project was part of the UiO: Experiences project, dedicated to promoting engineering and science education in Norway, and comes at a time when people are warming to the idea of drones upping their payloads. Ehang's personal transport drone is just one example - why shouldn't they do the heavy lifting eventually?...
