Meet Shep - The World's First Sheepdog Drone

The idea of drones being used in the agricultural industry is nothing new. Before Christmas we featured a couple of UAVs designed to monitor crops and even sow seeds. But now one plucky farmer has taken things to the next level...

Take a moment to consider the idea of herding animals with drones. An immediate reaction might be to laugh and dismiss it entirely; or you might suddenly have a faraway look in your eyes, realizing that perhaps all of your dreams are about to become reality. Well it's true. One farmer in Ireland has decided to go against the grain and use his aerial prowess to give his sheepdog a day off...

The farmer's name is Paul Brennan, and he's christened his drone 'Shep'. Footage of the drone in action proves that quadcopters are pretty good at herding fluffy animals from above, and may be about to put sheepdogs and shepherds out of business all over the world.

We can neither confirm nor deny a shepherding update in the next Airnest patch...
